Tectonic Mosaic Geode Bird Feeder

Begin by constructing a hollow, irregularly shaped carcass using thick slabs of Shou Sugi Ban treated cedar. The exterior should feature sharp, angular cuts to mimic the rough outer crust of a raw geological formation.

Carefully excavate the center of the structure and line the interior cavity with a waterproof resin base. Embed polished crystals, river pebbles, and crushed amethyst along the walls to create the shimmering interior of a geode.

Install a recessed, weather-proof seed reservoir at the base of the cavity, hidden behind a decorative shelf of slate. This ensures the seeds remain dry while providing birds a landing surface that feels like natural rock.

Finish the design by attaching a heavy-duty stainless steel cable through the center of gravity to allow the feeder to hang at a slight, dramatic tilt. The final result creates a beautiful contrast between the charred timber exterior and the sparkling, protected interior.
