Rustic Live-Edge Slab Floating River Seed Trough

Select a piece of live-edge walnut with interesting grain patterns and natural wane. Flatten the slab using a router sled jig to ensure a stable, level surface for the bird landing area.

Use a jigsaw to cut a winding, organic channel through the center of the wood to create the river aesthetic. Seal the edges with high-quality tape and pour a tinted blue epoxy resin into the channel to form the spill-proof seed reservoir.

Once cured, sand the resin flush with the wood surface using progressive grits up to 2000. Apply a marine-grade teak oil to protect the wood grain and bring out the deep, rich colors of the walnut.

Install stainless steel eye bolts into the top corners for hanging with braided wire. Attach small protective wooden 'roof' flaps over the seed channel to keep the feed dry during inclement weather.
