Steampunk Victorian Brass Orrery Seed Planetarium

Construct the central vertical axis using a turned hardwood column that supports a series of horizontal brass rings. Ensure the rings are friction-fitted to allow for gentle manual rotation while remaining stable enough to hold the weight of foraging birds.

Fabricate individual seed containers by shaping copper sheet metal into small, orb-like planetary vessels. Drill drainage holes at the base of each vessel to keep seeds dry and attach them to the rotating rings using miniature decorative gears.

Apply a weather-resistant patina to the brass and copper components to achieve an authentic aged appearance. Once aged, coat the metal in a clear exterior-grade lacquer to protect the finish from oxidation caused by rain and bird droppings.

Mount the entire assembly onto a sturdy base plate with a weighted internal balance system to prevent tipping in high winds. Finish by installing a miniature celestial dial atop the central column for added Victorian flair and structural reinforcement.
