Begin by crafting the central drive shaft and a series of interlocking Baltic birch plywood gears. Ensure each tooth is precisely filed so that the gears mesh smoothly without friction, allowing the wind to turn the assembly.
Construct the circular carousel platforms using lightweight cedar to keep the overall weight balanced for rotation. Mount small, CNC-routed seed cups around the perimeter of each tier to house different varieties of bird seed.
Install a balanced vane at the very top of the structure to capture light breezes from any direction. Connect the vane to the central axle using a brass rod to translate wind energy into slow, steady rotation.
Seal the entire assembly with marine-grade outdoor varnish to protect the exposed wood from the elements. Test the rotational balance by lightly sanding high-friction points until the carousel spins freely with minimal wind pressure.
