Telescoping Iris-Aperture Treetop Stargazing Deck

The primary platform is constructed from pressure-treated cedar beams reinforced with galvanized steel collars to allow for natural tree growth. A circular floor frame is leveled and secured around the trunk, serving as the foundation for the mechanical iris tracks.

The iris mechanism utilizes laser-cut marine-grade plywood petals that slide along interlocking low-friction grooves. Each petal is precisely angled to overlap perfectly, ensuring a weather-tight seal when fully closed.

A manual hand-crank winch system is integrated into the center of the handrail to actuate the aperture petals simultaneously. This gear-driven design provides smooth, silent movement for opening the roof to specific diameters.

The final stage involves applying a UV-resistant marine varnish to the wooden petals to withstand high-altitude exposure. The perimeter is enclosed with tempered glass balustrades to maintain an unobstructed view of the horizon while keeping the deck safe.
