Orbital Steam-Bent Spruce Observation Sphere

The structural skeleton is formed by precisely steam-bending spruce lamination strips into perfect circular ribs. These ribs are anchored to the primary tree trunk using adjustable steel mounting brackets to allow for natural tree growth and swaying.

Integrated meridian rings are installed to serve as the track for the sliding acrylic dome panels. Each track is milled with a grooved channel to ensure a weather-tight seal while allowing the roof to rotate for 360-degree star gazing.

The interior floor is constructed from modular hexagonal teak panels that interlock to form a seamless deck surface. Beneath the flooring, a reinforced tension-cable system provides additional rigidity to the spherical frame.

Final assembly involves treating the exterior spruce with a UV-resistant marine varnish to protect against harsh canopy exposure. Low-profile interior LED strips are flush-mounted into the ribbing to provide soft illumination without detracting from the night sky view.
